Omineca Guide & Outfitters

Located in north central BC, our guiding territory near Fort St. James is over 1000 sq km, prime habitat for trophy Black Bears, Canada Moose, Deer and Wolf. Every season our hunters kill Black Bear over 7’ (nose to tail). The Biggest so far is 7’5”. This spring opening week our hunters saw over 50 Bears. Our Moose population is between 500 and 700, based on biologists counts. Mature Bulls range from 35” to over 50”.

100% success on Black Bear in Spring and Early Fall. Black Bear Hunts are fair-chase spot and stalk and we access the area by 4X4. To hunt Moose we use calling, stands and boats. We guide Bow Hunters to game by spot and stalk as well as calling and stand hunting.

TROPHY BLACK BEAR

Omineca Guide & Outfitters We've got big Bears. Our average Bears (18.5’ skull measurement) beat SCI record minimums. Every season our Hunters take Black Bears over 7’ (Skull measurements over 19.5”). Omineca Record: 7’5” (nose to tail). That’s 2.26 meters in metric. 15% - 20% of our Blacks are brown colour-phase, ranging from blonde to dark copper. Brown-phase and Black, all with thick, healthy hides.

We hunt Black Bear in the spring and early fall. In the spring we spot and stalk prime old cuts and logging trails full of rich new growth that Bears love. In the early fall the Bears are drawn to the many berries that grow on hillsides. At this time, we see as many, if not more Bears, than we do in the Spring. Expect to see 3 to 10 Blacks a day.

Average Rifle shot distance 100 yards, 25 yards for Bow. For several years now, our success rate for Black Bear is over 100%. Though they are an incidental game, there's always a chance to run into Wolves.

CANADA MOOSE

Our Guiding Territory is a perfect mix of lakes, virgin timber and logged areas, ideal summer and winter habitat for our Moose. Our biggest bulls grow to over 50”. Most we harvest are between 3 and 8 years old. During your 8 day hunt expect to see and hear between 15 to 25 moose. The fall Moose hunt is primarily a calling hunt: from watercraft, groundseats and treestands. We also travel by 4x4 to call and stalk in the far reaches of our territory.

We specialize in calling Moose in close. Bow Hunters: expect great opportunities. Archery, Blackpowder and Rifle Hunters can stalk and call their way to success in our many prime rutting areas. We teach you how to call in your own Bull. Many of our Guests have killed Bulls they’ve called in themselves. We tailor your hunt to your abilities.
