The vacationer will be able to enjoy the quiet atmosphere of the countryside in the evenings. Many times bear and moose are seen from the porch. Located near the North entrance of Baxter State Park offers some of the best hiking or sightseeing in Northern Maine. Visit the Lumberman's Museum in Patten. Take a ride in the evening to see a moose or deer and smell the sweet fresh cut Spruce.
Maine Black Bear Hunts
1. Over active Bait:
The Katahdin Valley Outfitters bait in a very bear rich area. Old established bait sites surrounded by hardwood and lakes and stands placed in the dark softwood bottoms are very productive. Many of our stands are accessible only by "four wheelers" and the limited access has contributed to our above average success rate.
2.With Bear Hounds:
We offer two packages for Black Bear hunting with hounds. 1. A complete 6 day hunt with our hounds. Our 30 years of big game breeding has resulted in many successful Trophy Black Bear hunts. We use the latest in tracking telemetry with our hounds and constant radio contact with our hunters to help you harvest your Black Bear Trophy. Our hunting integrity contributes to your success and your success is our reward.
3. A complete 6 day hunt with your hounds. This includes the use of our camp (sleeps 8) and guide services and our active bait areas.
4. Katahdin Valley Outfitters will remove your trophy bear from the woods, skin, quarter and freeze it for transportation.
The success rate with the Maine Whitetail Deer at Katahdin Valley Outfitters is well known. For years we have consistently enjoyed a better than 50% kill on Big Whitetail Bucks on our guided hunts. As with bear, the deer feeding range will change from year to year depending on weather conditions. When you hire a Katahdin Outfitter Guide you are not getting just a 6 day hunt. You are reaping the benefits of our search for big deer that started right after the deer left the deer yard in the Spring. We offer two packages for Whitetail deer:
1.Semi Guided, This includes lodging, meals and the opportunity to hunt with the Nissley family for 6 days as they pursue the elusive Whitetail.
Moose Hunting
If you are fortunate to receive a Moose permit from the Maine Inland Fisheries & Wildlife the Katahdin Valley Outfitters will make every effort to see your hunt is a complete success. We are in close proximity to Moose Hunting Districts 10, 11 & 5. We have the equipment and the expertise to make your Trophy of a lifetime a reality. The Katahdin Valley Outfitters are in the woods for months before Moose season doing pre season scouting. When you arrive at our lodge you can rest assured we know where the Moose are. Our hunting methods include stalking and calling and some flying time. You will see numerous Moose and having a video camera with you is encouraged. After you harvest your Moose we will remove it from the woods, skin and place your Moose in cold storage.
Katahdin Valley Outfitters offer a Sled Dog Adventure tailored for every person. With our good snow conditions, our Sled Dog Adventures run from January 1 through the end of March. You will receive Sled Dog instructions before your departure on each adventure. You will want to dress WARM. We would recommend that you dress in layers. Warm foot wear is essential! We recommend a warm parka with a hood and warm mittens. You will be riding on scenic trails through the North Maine Woods. It is not uncommon to see wildlife on the trail like the elusive Pine Martin, Fisher Cat or even an Otter out on the snow. Many times Deer show up and even on occasion a Moose.
