J&J Guide Service

We are second generation outfitters with two camps in operation in central and southeastern Montana to ensure our hunters the finest hunting that Montana has to offer. We lease the hunting rights on several private ranches as well as being the only permitted outfitter on about 60,000 acres of National Forest. Over the last few years we are very proud that our hunters have received several Montana Outfitters and Guides Association/SCI awards. We also have the distinction of being the only outfitter in the state to have recieved awards in each of the four major catagories, Mule deer, Whitetail, Antelope and Archery Elk as well as having recieved more youth awards than any other outfitter in the state. Our rifle hunters have had a 98% success rate on Antelope and 95% success rate on deer.

Hunts
We are able to provide personal service for quality animals by limiting the number of hunters to 4 or 5 per hunt at each camp. All hunts are fully guided and outfitted with 4 wheel drive being the method of transportation to and from the hunting area. Excellent accommodations are provided at each camp including hot showers and home cooked meals. (For a complete description of each camp please go to our Camps page) We have guided hunters ranging in age from 12 to 81 with excellent results, although the better your physical condition the more you will enjoy the hunt and increase your odds for success. You are only required to bring your personal gear, license, and shooting equipment. J&J Guide Service provides all necessary services and equipment to ensure your success, including guide service, meals, lodging, and trophy care of animals. We follow a strict code of ethics and expect our hunters to do the same as all hunts are conducted by the rules of fair chase.

Camps

Mill Iron
Our Mill Iron camp, which is where we live, is located 20 miles southeast of Ekalaka, Mt. Here we lease the exclusive hunting rights on several private ranches consisting of approximately 50,000 acres. We are also the only permitted outfitter on approximately 60,000 acres of the Custer National Forest. Hunting here is for whitetail, mule deer, antelope as well as archery elk. Accommodations include a cordwood cabin with propane heat, shower and bath as well as rooms in the basement of our house for man/wife or father/son or daughter hunts. Hearty, healthy breakfasts and suppers are served family style in our dining room with lunches eaten in the field. Depending on the time of year and or group size we operate up to three guides for a maximum of six hunters in camp at a time. The elevation will vary from a low of 3000 feet to a high of about 4200 feet. The Mill Iron area habitat consists of ponderosa pine timbered hills, grasslands, grain and alfalfa fields, and creek bottoms. It is not uncommon to see two, three, or even all four big game species feeding in the same field.

Sand Springs
Our Sand Springs camp is located 45 miles west of Jordan, Mt. in the Missouri River Breaks area. There hunting is for mule deer, antelope, and archery elk with a few whitetails also available. Currently we lease the exclusive hunting rights on two large private ranches giving us control of about 55,000 acres. Hunters stay in a large mobile home with three bedrooms, two baths. All you can eat breakfast and suppers will be family style at the ranch headquarters with lunch eaten in the field. At this camp four hunters per week is the maximum except for special requests from individual groups. The elevation will range from 2500 to 3500 feet. About ½ of the hunting area is pine and cedar covered hills with the remainder consisting of gumbo-sagebrush breaks, grasslands, CRP fields, and a few grain and alfalfa fields.

Note: We do not have the large number of animals per acre found in some of the eastern states, but due to the tremendous amount of area we have available to hunt you can expect to see a lot of game hopefully giving you an opportunity to take the trophy of your dreams. Also We cannot guarantee you will harvest an animal, but our Christian values will ensure you receive the most honest, enjoyable, successful hunt possible.
