TROPHY WHITETAIL DEER, TURKEY, BEARS, WILD HOG AND BOBCAT HUNTING IN NORTH CAROLINA - ARCHERY - GUN HUNTS - MUZZLELOADER
Buffalo Creek Bertie Lodge is approximately 7000 acres of beautiful hunting country. It is flat land with slight ridges of hardwood and pine thickets surrounded by vast tracts of cypress swamps. Also, it contains many fields of peanuts, which whitetail deer, black bear and other game find to be their select choice of food. The high protein found in peanuts help to grow some of the biggest racks available in the state of NC. The whitetail deer leave the protection of the bottom lands to graze on peanuts and grain provided by us.
Hunting Stands: we have 250 stands located at the Bertie County Camp. These stands are made up of shooting houses or ground blinds of those hunters who do not wish to climb, as well as ladder stands, tripod stands and many totally enclosed box stands with chairs or swivel seats. All of our ladder stands and tripod stands are provided with rails and curtains for your shooting comfort and safety. We do not use portable tree stands.
Feeders: We also have approximately 75 feeders located on the property, many that operate year-round. As one can imagine, our feed stations, which include feeders, corn piles, and other feed supplements, are the center of activity across the farm. Not only do many bucks and hogs frequent these feeders, but so do bobcats in search of small game. Almost all of our deer and hog stands are baited with corn or located over a feeder, which is legal in North Carolina.
The Buffalo Creek Bertie Lodge is open to muzzleloader, pistol, rifle and shotgun hunters. We do all archery hunts out of the Sampson Lodge.
Lodging... We have a clean, comfortable lodge with 4 bedrooms and 2 baths. We also began building cabins in 2004. These cabins have a private bathroom and bunks to sleep 2 - 4 hunters. We have lounging, with satellite TV for relaxing after the hunt. You will bunk in the same room with the party that you come with, couples will have their own room. Clean sheets and blankets are provided.
Lodge Location...The Buffalo Creek Bertie Lodge is located in Northeast NC in Bertie County near Lewiston - Woodville. We also hunt in Hertford County. These areas are listed at the top in deer harvested and buck size. We have a deer herd in excess of 45 deer per square mile as stated by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission. All of our land is private land. We do not hunt public land.
Meals...We provide 3 meals per day - a light breakfast with coffee, milk or orange juice, sandwiches and soup for lunch and a good supper after the hunt. We serve steak, chicken, pork and deer. Bag lunches will be made for those wishing to hunt all day.
Camping / Motels... Tent camping and campers are permitted at lodge. Subtract $50 per day from the hunt price. Campers needing water and electric will be charged $25 per day. Motels are located 20 miles from lodge. Hunters staying at a motel must furnish transportation to the lodge each day.
Transportation... We provide transportation to and from your stand and help you get in it. Transportation to and from the airport can be arranged at an additional charge. The closest airport to our lodge is Greenville-Washington International or Rocky Mount-Wilson International. Both are approximately 1 hour drive. A bigger and perhaps cheaper airport would be Raleigh - Durham International, approximately 2.5 hours away. You will probably find that flying into Raleigh and taking a rental car will be the best way.
Skinning......We skin and quarter your game for you and can refrigerate or freeze the meat for your trip home. We also have a local Taxidermist that is very good and reasonable. If you decide to leave the head for mounting, most shoulder mounts run around $375.00.
What to Bring...Towels and washcloths, soap and shampoo (unscented recommended) drinks and snacks, flashlight, insect repellent (Thermocel are inexpensive and work the best - needed for early season only) coolers, (needed for heads and meat) camera, rubber boots, (many areas are wet) rain gear, house slippers.
Game sizes and weights...Deer will range in weight from 80 - 125 lbs. for does and 90 - 185 lbs. for bucks, with an occasional 200 pounder. Racks will vary from a spike to a 12-point buck with a 20" spread. Turkeys will weigh from 18 - 25 lbs. and beards from 2.5 - 12" long. Hogs are all sizes but average about 200 lbs. Black bear can top 500 lbs. but the average is 300 lbs. Bobcats average 30 lbs.
